Läkare Utan Gränser är en medicinsk humanitär organisation som räddar liv och lindrar nöd där det behövs mest. Läkare Utan Gränser eller Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) startades 1971 i Paris. En grupp unga franska läkare, som tidigare hade arbetat för Röda korset i krigets Biafra, ansåg att det behövdes en oberoende medicinsk hjälporganisation som talade öppet om övergrepp och maktmissbruk. En organisation där arbetet enbart styrdes av nödställda människors behov utan att ta politisk hänsyn.
Hopp och drömmar i vardagen
Varje år får de dagcenter som Läkare Utan Gränser driver tillsammans med ett antal lokala organisationer omkring 8000 besök. Barn och ungdomar som lever på gatan får medicinsk och psykologisk hjälp samt utbildning och ett tillhåll där det finns vuxna som lyssnar till deras hopp och drömmar om framtiden. Någon vill utbilda sig och börja arbeta, en annan vill ha hjälp att ta hand om sitt eget barn. Med lite hjälp kan man komma långt i livet.

Today was a wake up call. My whole universe moved. I spent the whole day with the MSF team and it was not until I came out on the street that I understood how professional they were and what a respect they have from the people living on the street. Instead of searching for the people, they actually came up to thank us and to ask for our advice. My strongest memory is the family that was living in the garbage. I never really understood why they lived in the garbage and not further away. ”The garbage is an asset and not just garbage. By living close to the garbage the family gets a bigger chance to find food and things to sell from the garbage! Now I understood how important it is to really understand the people that you are helping. The team in Honduras are really spectacular with extreme knowledges in dealing with people on a personal level. What a fantastic experience. Life is easier today in Honduras thanks to Medecins Sans Frontiers….

Border to Nicaragua
Rain and more rain. To cross this country takes appx two days so there is not so much to say about it. It looks like Guatemala and El Salvador but with all this rain Im not really sure. Now I will meet up with two of the organizations; Medecins Sans Frontier and Kooperation Utan Gränser. This will of course be the high light of the week for sure.
